A very good thing happened here in Florida yesterday.
Homeowners insurance rates were rolled back as well as
Citizen's insurance rates saw revamping as well.
It all came about in Florida because ordinary people like you and I got on their computers, wrote letters by hand, called, alerted the TV news
to talk about how they felt about the issue. At the end a few even got out there to demonstrate to apply public pressure and opinion upon our law makers.
We were adamant about having to take the abusiveness of an unfair fifty one percent rate hike that was approved by the same law makers and metered out by insurance companys after three hurricanes wrought their havoc and disaster upon us. An added boost came when the homestead exemption was raised as well.
The power and the voice of the people as well as our new Governor, Charlie Crist who kept his campaign promises wrote a new page in the law books that will see that the insurance companys finally become regulated here in this state.
It all came about by a lot of people becoming proactive within their
government. Change happens folks. Its not in the realm of dreams.
Nor does it come about by sitting around and whining and doing nothing with one's hands and voice.
Positive change happens when people refused to be ignored by their leaders and when they finally get tired of being pushed around and stepped upon by big corporations. Its all about demanding and commanding a little respect.
Apathy is a psychic virus that spreads from person to person. Its a condition that arises when one sees and thinks that no one is really paying attention. It arises from a basic lack of educating oneself about the due process of government. It happens when everyone makes the fatal mistake of keeping silent when they should be raising their voices to be heard.
My personal campaign began months ago when my wife received that letter from her insuror telling her that they were canceling her policy in August of next year. I wrote the then Attorney General Charley Crist, Governor Bush, the insurance regulatory board and I called channel nine TV as well as E mailing them about my concerns about unfair insurance rate hikes that were affecting old folks and disabled people here in Florida and other parts of the nation who had experienced their share of natural disasters. Channel nine set up an appointment to interview my wife and I and I received responses from the Governor, the Attorney General, two of my District Representatives, as well as a response from the insurance regulatory board in Tallahassee, Florida.
I set up three blogs to get my point of view seen by whom ever would read them. (Review them here on my blog). In essence, the word got out. Before that no one had brought up the proposed homeowner's insurance rate hikes as a campaign issue. Once our TV interview was aired then it finally became fuel that spurred political dialogue within the political runoffs.
So, If you think our air quality is poor and affecting our planet,
if you think that your children's education is lacking and can be made better, if you think that war - any war is bad policy get out there and become proactive. Sign petitions, set up petitions online, write letters, call, send E mails begin your process for positive change in this country as well as within your states.
A very loud message was sent out to the juggernaught insurance corporations yesterday. Now you, the people who have been watching what would happen here in Florida have to act accordingly.
Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi should be next.
Spread the word people. Change happens.
There are still issues within our state in regard to homeowner's insurance that need to be addressed and refined...It isn't over yet...
Get on it people!
Thanks,
John Ayes
